Amputee Rehabilitation

Rebuilding Lives, Renewing Hope

Spalding Rehabilitation Hospital’s team of amputation experts work with all types of amputees provides each of our patients with individualized treatment plan according to their needs .Our goal is to maximize each patient's independence and help him or her regain a productive, rewarding lifestyle. Exercises begin immediately after amputation to prevent deconditioning. Upper body must be strengthened to allow the amputee to walk with crutches. When the stump wound has closed the patient is ready for a prosthesis. Usually several different prosthetic sockets must be made in the first year as the stump shrinks and changes shape.
